ALLIANCE ENERGY

lihir investment fund acquires stake in alliance energy

MRL Funds Management, acting as trustee for the Lihir Investment Fund (LIF), has completed the acquisition of a stake in Alliance Energy.

Alliance Energy, founded in 2021, has quickly established itself as a key fuel distributor in Port Moresby, with a highly diversified customer base across multiple industries.

The company founders, who have driven growth to date, will remain as shareholders.  This arrangement reflects a deliberate approach to back founder-led businesses without displacing the entrepreneurial vision which has underpinned the success to date.

Alliance Energy has a hugely experienced and well-regarded executive management team with the operational expertise required to maintain the present growth trajectory.

Simon Robilliard, who has worked in the PNG fuel industry for over 20 years, has been appointed Chief Executive Officer.  Simon will be ably assisted by Rodney Koman and Amos Yapo, who are seasoned industry professionals, having held roles at Shell, BP, InterOil and Puma Energy.

For the LIF, Alliance Energy is the first private equity investment, marking a significant milestone in the fund’s strategy of building a broad and diversified portfolio of assets.

Private equity investments give LIF unitholders exposure to an asset class, and the associated returns, they are otherwise unable to access in the retail market.

The LIF’s investment will facilitate Alliance Energy’s expansion into other markets in PNG.  MRL Funds Management looks forward to supporting the next phase of Alliance Energy’s expansion.
